LAMDAMAP Laser Metrology and Machine Performance

The LAMDAMAP bi-annual Conference has progressed considerably over the 12 years of its existence. This true International Conference attracts leading delegates / presenters from industry and academia worldwide. The specialists participating to the successful previous conferences came from Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Korea, Poland, Romania, Switzerland, United Kingdom and USA.

Well-known industrial companies and academic institutions have presented new and innovative research results at previous conferences in Southampton, Huddersfield, Newcastle and Birmingham and Cranfield. The number of participants has maintained a good standard and in 2005 delegate numbers exceeded 100 every day.

LAMDAMAP 2003

6th International Conference and Exhibition on Laser Metrology , Machine Tool, CMM and Robot Performance

The University of Huddersfield, UK,
15th July 2003 - 18th July, 2003

Aims of the Conference included

  • To present the latest technology in machine tool performance and assessment,
co-ordinate metrology, novel machine structures and related disciplines
  • To report on International standards, calibration and certification procedures
  • To promote interaction between research groups, metrology laboratories, standards organisations and industry

The aims were achieved by means of oral presentation of refereed papers and
covered the following topics:

  • machine condition monitoring, maintenance and calibration
  • metrology and its applications to manufacturing performance and industrial
    inspection
  • new techniques in performance assessment and verification - software and
    hardware
  • standards for geometric product specification, machine calibration and uncertainty
  • numerical and computational tools
  • gear design, transmission and associated metrology applications
  • surface integrity and measurement practices
  • novel machine structures (e.g. hexapods, robots etc.)
  • artificial intelligence in manufacturing
  • machining control practices (turning, milling or grinding)
  • machine tool and CMM performance

Technical Workshops and Tutorials

As always, associated with the three-day LAMDAMAP Conference and exhibition was a preceding day offering a unique range of parallel sessions of technical workshops and tutorials involving leading international industrial and academic researchers. The wide-ranging technical expertise and practical foresight of these sessions ensured a successful knowledge exchange between industrial people and academic scientists.

Keynote Lectures

Top specialists such as Sir David M McMurtry (Renishaw plc), Dr. Norbert Hennes (WZL RWTH Aachen, Germany), Professor W Brian Rowe (Liverpool John Moores Univ.) and Professor Derek G Ford (Univ. of Huddersfield) gave an insight to the relevant aspects of high competitive technology.
